Cabañas "La Joya de Yelapa" are cabins located on the beach of a small village called Yelapa. Yelapa is nestled in the southernmost cove of the world's 7th largest bay, Bahia de Banderas (Bay of Flags). Yelapa is located only 45 minutes by water taxi from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. It is most easily accessible by boat, as the alternative is a treacherous 3 hour drive.

Yelapa is a true escape from the day to day bustle most of us call normal. If you are a lover of the outdoors and enjoy activities such as exploring the beach, the coast, the mountain and the rivers, this tranquil piece of paradise is perfect for you.

From the airport in Puerto Vallarta, take a taxi either to Playa de los Muertos pier in Old Town Puerto Vallarta or to Boca de Tomatlan. From either of these locations you can then take a water taxi to Yelapa. Water taxis run all year round and their schedules vary according to season. Water taxi schedules can be found at www.yelapa.info

In Yelapa, ask the boatman to drop you off on La Playa (the big beach) which is only a few meters from La Joya. Once on the beach, ask one of the friendly locals to point you in the direction of La Joya.

Should the above sound too difficult, upon request we can arrange for someone to meet you at the airport for and extra fee. Similarly, if you are arriving in Puerto Vallarta on a later flight and do not wish to spend the night in Puerto Vallarta, we can arrange for someone to pick you up in Boca de Tomatlan for $100 USD.

We recommend you bring a flashlight as the pathways throughout the village are not very well lit. A warm sweater and a light windbreaker will make your stay more comfortable as both early mornings and evenings can be cool during the winter months. The windbraker will also make your trips on the boat much more pleasant.

There is no ATM or currency exchange in Yelapa so make sure you have enough money with you to avoid an unnecessary trip to Puerto Vallarta. The US Dollar is widely accepted in Yelapa, but the exchange rate is often 10 Pesos to 1 US Dollar. Please note that the Canadian Dollar is not accepted in Yelapa.
